Hi and welcome to the story behind Adventure Outlet! Just so you know who you are dealing with on one of our tours or at the other end of the phone or email, we thought to include a little about ourselves and how we ended up in this industry! We've also now added a few words about our excellent staff who ensure our business is run like a well oiled machine! We hope you enjoy our story and learning a little more about us!

The main person behind the dream is Craig McSween. From Victoria with an avid sporting background, he was drawn to the warm Queensland weather a long time ago and found himself submersed in the many wonderful water sports we have here.

With a degree in Human Movements and Sports Administration his work has included a vast selection of positions including sporting coach, swimming instructor, white water river guide & trainer, sea kayaking guide, canoeing instructor, Rescue 3 Instructor (white water & emergency technician), sea kayaking instructor as well as business entrepreneur.

In 1998, with years of sea kayak guiding experience behind him, he convinced his partner to launch into the world of sea kayaking by establishing a sea kayaking tour operations, namely Splash Safaris Sea Kayaking Adventures. This move saw him paddling around the waters of Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay, following his experience in Far North Queensland, paddling around Hinchinbrook and the offshore islands around Cairns and Mission Beach.

From there on, he continued his pursuit of understanding more about the sport with many courses and paddling expeditions. With his instructor/coaching skills he was able to incorporate the teaching of sea kayaking and has since become a contracted instructor for Queensland Canoeing.

With such a deep involvement in sea kayaking, the need for gear and accessories grew and in some ways, Craigs' love of gadgets and toys really didn't help! Eventually, Craigs' knowledge of gear and accessories reached a point where many paddlers were seeking his advice on gear and where they could source the items. This led to the eventual establishment of Adventure Outlet in 2004.

With nearly 12 years of teaching sea kayaking and running Splash Safaris Sea Kayaking Adventures behind him, he is a great source of advice. Not only has he seen and tried alot of kayaks and gear out there on the market, he is now conducting reviews and test paddles for magazines and manufacturers.

When you are dealing with Adventure Outlet and Craig, you know the advice and information you will receive will most likely be the most educational and updated information you will find. Being a retailer, we are unbiased and only recommend products we have tried and tested to ensure we understand what we sell.

Our staff spend alot of time with Craig understanding and learning what he knows. We are proud of the business we have established, knowing we are able to assist people get out there on the water in crafts that are suitable for them and the conditions they will be paddling in.

Brendo

Don't be fooled by our easy going, Brendo, who joined us in 2005, he has safely brought back hundreds of happy customers, impressed with his skill level and knowledge of the area. Brendo's jovial nature stretches across all facets of his life making him excellent for the outdoor industry. His love of the outdoors saw him complete his sea kayaking instructor qualification early in his life and he has since pursued a life based on adventure. His interest in the outdoors has even taken him overseas where he held the position as a watersports instructor in Thailand. He is currently completing his degree to be a PE (Physical Education) Teacher, so although he seems fairly relaxed and carefree with his typical surfie blonde and blue eyed looks, his skills and background in the field ensure a fantastic kayaking experience by all!

Bart

Bart has shown us that passion is the core element in achievement! His interest in the outdoor industry, particularly kayaking has seen him excel in this field. Coming from a trade background, he approached us in 2006 with just his passion in the field. He has since built his skills up to sea leader level. Although Bart portrays a fun-loving character, his has vast experience in running tours and groups for us. He works diligently to make every tour he runs a treasured memory by ensuring the safety and comfort of all customers. His interest in kayaking has enable him to test paddle more kayaks and gear you can poke a stick at, this has allowed him to obtain extensive knowledge on current kayaks and gear on the market. He is now an invaluable team member in our retail store, offering unbiased, up to date information on all our products. As a team member, he is our jack of all trades, running tours, selling kayaks and even shopfitting our store!
